A day of solidarity: Toonie for Football vs Cancer

Football match, stadium

In a moving display of solidarity and sportsmanship, the annual Football vs Cancer charity event took place at the iconic Bolton Wanderers Stadium on Saturday, 18th May 2024. What started as a humble kickabout in a local park, blossomed into a grand spectacle that united former professionals, celebrities and the football community in a common cause.

"Originally the ‘Mick Belson Cup’, the event was formed to raise money in honour of Mick Belson, a grassroots football coach who passed away on 14th February 2010, after being diagnosed with a brain tumour". You can read more here.

In the intervening years, the Football vs Cancer event has raised over £75,000 for various cancer charities, and last May weekend's match at the Wanderers' home ground raised money for Anna's Hope, In Sue's Name and the club's official charity, Bolton Wanderers in the Community, which will allocate 100% of the money raised to local projects

Fortunately, associations such as Football vs Cancer have been at the forefront, working tirelessly to turn the odds in favour of those battling this relentless disease.

Toonie Global and Ephelia Group also participated in the event, supporting the cause and spreading awareness.

The match itself was an exciting spectacle, with ex-professionals showcasing their skills alongside eager celebrities, all with one goal: to support the cause. From mind-boggling goals to touching moments of camaraderie, the event embodied the spirit of unity and resilience.

Behind the scenes, the Football vs Cancer team worked tirelessly, orchestrating every detail to ensure the success of the event. Their dedication and passion were palpable, inspiring everyone present to give their all, both on and off the field.

After the event, the impact remains, reminding us of the power of community and the importance of coming together in times of need. The Football vs Cancer charity event is a testament to what can be achieved when individuals and organisations come together for a noble cause.
